A powerful start: WA grain growers kick off a future-focused resilience journey at the 2025 FBR Bootcamp

Over two dynamic days in Perth, the 2025  Farm Business Resilience (FBR) Program Bootcamp brought together a passionate and forward-thinking group of grain growers from across Western Australia. As the first stage of this year’s program, the bootcamp offered a vital opportunity for participants to step out of day-to-day operations and invest in the long-term strength of their farm businesses.

With an engaging agenda led by facilitator Lucy Anderton, and a lineup of experienced experts, the event explored practical tools, strategies, and innovations to help farming enterprises adapt to challenges like climate variability, succession planning, workforce development, and financial resilience.

We extend a big thank you to our guest speakers and presenters who brought a wealth of insights to the room:

  • Belinda Lay MAICD (EZI Group / Coolindown Farms) – for her open and inspiring reflections on innovation and leadership at the farm level.
  • Ashley Herbert (Agrarian) – for breaking down complex decision-making and supporting growers to plan with purpose.
  • Brendan Taylor (Lincolns) – for sharpening our financial lenses and helping growers align their goals with sound business fundamentals.
  • Stuart Willis (Rural Enterprises) – for practical guidance on workforce planning and how to attract and retain the right people.
Annie Brox (ORIGO.ag) – for spotlighting digital tools and agtech solutions that are already making a difference on WA farms.

From in-depth discussions to moments of shared laughter and peer support, the bootcamp highlighted the importance of community, collaboration, and continual learning in today’s agricultural landscape.

What’s Next?
This bootcamp was just the beginning. The  Farm Business Resilience Program will continue to provide growers with access to one-on-one coaching, workshops, and learning resources over the coming months, all aimed at building a more profitable, adaptable, and sustainable future.

The Farm Business Resilience Program is jointly funded by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and WA’s Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).

Thank you again to all the growers who joined us, shared their experiences, and showed a deep commitment to growing stronger businesses and more resilient communities. We’re looking forward to what’s ahead!
